Jamie Woon - Wayfaring Stranger

Jamie Woon, like James Blake, is one of those male artists showing what can happen when you combine conventionally strong soulful vocals with dubstep’s eerie spaciousness and resonant production techniques. This however is a way old track, I’m just totally feelin’ it today. If this doesnt quite do it for you, check out the dread inducing remix job Burial did on this back in 08, beautiful. For 2010’s efforts, check out Night Air.

Emika - Double Edge 

Mixing pop with dark tones taken from dubstep and techno, the sonics reflect paranoid perspectives of relationships poised between fulfilment and collapse. Atmospherics were captured in Teufelsberg, West Berlin on a cold winter’s day. “I focused on capturing sound, phenomena that exist independently of people and personality,” Emika explains. “But once back in the studio they become the language I use to tell stories.”

Minimal, Entrancing.

A Place To Bury Strangers - In Your Heart

Pretty fucking apt if you ask me. So this is the point on their Exploding Head LP that sees A Place To Bury Strangers shifting into a darker, bleaker direction. The album offers a shit load of these great, moving moments, and for that reason needs to be listened to in it’s entirety -and on fuck off massive speakers. For now, let your ears feast upon this, all clanging Joy Division forward motion, hooky chord progressions and trails of slashing distortion. Sweet.
